Welcome to Kids and Smiles, our mission is to bring smiles to kids in the hospitals, by delivering toys, cards, and other kids' prepared crafts. We accomplish our mission through involvement of other kids and the community at large through youth-run events.
The kids we are trying reach at the hospitals are typically in specialized pediatric units. These kids are too ill or technologically dependent to receive care at home or who need the constant supervision and services provided in a professional "sub-acute" health care environment.
Kids and Smiles has been organizing youth-run events for the last few years. Rather than simply dropping off toys, kids organize and take part in social themed events, for example, a Halloween party or an Easter Egg Hunt. Events are free, and proceeds (toys, books, DVDs) are then delivered by the volunteers of Kids and Smiles, to local hospitals. All cash donations (100%) are used to hold events, or purchase gifts for donations.
In 2011 summer, when Martand Bhagavatula was 8 years old, he played violin for pediatric patients at a local hospital and felt saddened that they had so little "fun" things in their rooms, and so little opportunity to socialize with children outside the hospital. The idea for Kids and Smiles as born in late 2011, and the first visit to pediatric patients was made in 2012.
Team up with Kids and Smiles to keep the kids smiling!
